Directions for Obtaining Ohio LANDSAT Images

Use these directions if you want specific Satellite image dates, locations, and information. This process takes a few minutes for each band to download with a high-speed connection. Each downloaded band needs 57 MB of storage so think through which image date to download. Background requirements: Familiarity with basic software keys such as open, close, save as. Pre-downloaded and familiarity with the free MultiSpec© software and tutorial. A basic understanding of satellite images is helpful (i.e. term familiarity: bands, false color imaging, resolution).

  1. Create a folder for this project.
  2. Go to http://glovis.usgs.gov and locate a cloudless date.
  3. Open Ohiolink website http://landsat.ohiolink.edu/GEO/LS7/
  4. Click on the map of Ohio in the area of interest.
  5. Select a date. Select download raw files.
  6. Right click on the first desired band for downloading and “save target as” to the desired folder.
  7. Repeat the last step with the next band until all desired bands are downloaded.
  8. You are now ready to view these images using MultiSpec© software.
